Salamander
An Elemental who lights up our world
Gathering around a crackling bonfire on a starry summer night, you hear a soft, melodic humming emanating from the dancing flames. Mesmerized, you lean in closer and, to your amazement, a fire elemental emerges from the heart of the bonfire, its warm glow casting a flickering light on the trees around you. With a mischievous twinkle in its ember-like eyes, the elemental extends a gentle hand, and you feel a surge of warmth fill your chest with a sense of peace and camaraderie. It begins to share stories of ancient campfires, people long gone, and whispered secrets of forgotten fire rituals. As the night wears on, laughter and tales are exchanged with your newfound elemental friend. Just before dawn, it offers a cryptic promise that you forget as soon as you hear it. Frustrating as you find this, it is sadly often the way of the Fae folk. As the first light of daybreak appears, the elemental vanishes back into the bonfire, leaving you with a sense of wonder and the burning question of whether you will ever encounter its fiery magic again.

Welcome!
We’re home again, our road trip was incredible and we even managed a 9-hour car ride almost effortlessly. I want to say it was relaxing, but we worked hard at having fun! For sure the highlight of the trip was Cafe Central. You can never know if a place is as good as YouTube or a Google search makes it sound, but thanks to a reservation (the lines were always a bit long), we got a seat and it was a wonderful experience. Great schnitzel, amazing apple strudle. If you’re ever in Vienna, enjoy vaulted ceilings, super friendly service, and an overall welcoming vibe, I’d suggest a visit. I didn’t get good pictures, but we all loved it there.
We also went to the Schönbrunn Palace. I was…. nice? Expensive. The audio tour was really quite interesting, however, and we all enjoyed the palace tour.
There was lots to do, but happy to be home again and ready to get back to normal life!
Sketchbook Peek:
I was rather intimidated thinking about painting fire. I’d never really tried before and didn’t have a clue where to start. I found some great resources on YouTube and followed along with a couple of tutorials created by Gammatrap https://www.youtube.com/@Gammatrap
I would have been happy to keep practicing but I did want to get around to finishing my fire elemental painting.
My goal is to create a series of the four elementals with the elemental symbols incorporated. The symbol for fire is a simple triangle without a line and works well for a graphic background. I felt my initial sketch needed a bit more life so I added a hand and gave her pose a little more attitude. I love flowing hair, but it seemed I was losing the symbol if I let it get too wild so I kept her hair a bit shorter and added an earring for fun.
As I was working on this, her hand just seemed to be itching to show off a bit of her powerful ability. A bit of fire escaped and landed upon her hand in the form of a butterfly ;)
Thank You!
